About Us
Our EMS Academy, “Malteser Bildungszentrum HRS” (MBZ), is located in the middle and south-west of Germany. Founded in 2004, we have trained more than 2.000 EMTs (Rettungssanitaeter), Paramedics, and Advanced Care Paramedics (Notfallsanitaeter) and have had more than 10.000 participants in our CME classes.
Every year, more than 100 Advanced Care Paramedic students start their three-year training with us, and more than 250 EMT trainees join our four-month program. We are responsible for the continuous medical education of more than 1.500 EMS professionals per year.
From our headquarters in the picturesque city of Wetzlar (60 km north of Frankfurt) and our three outposts in Frankenthal (near Heidelberg), Trier and Korntal (near Stuttgart), we provide our services and training to nearly 100 EMS rescue stations in the Malteser EMS network and our partners from the German Red Cross, several Fire Departments and private EMS companies in four German federal states.
Our Staff
Our staff consists of 25 educators and instructors who are all Advanced Care Paramedics with a minimum of five years’ experience in EMS on MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Units). Most of our staff members have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in medical education or other relevant disciplines, are instructors in international courses such as ITLS and ERC and are certified simulation specialists (EUSIM). We also employ experts in MCI and triage training, tactical medicine, and education in low income or foreign countries with work experience in more than ten different nations. Since 2017 we support Malteser International in Uganda to improve the national ambulance system.
